I know this is late, but better late than never, right? I’ll be posting the rest of this trip and our Portland/Seattle trip in the near future and then moving on to our most recent trip to Hanoi and Bali.

Day 5: Last Day in Athens

Waking up on our last day in Athens, we set out to explore in more detail some of the sites we’d passed by on our tour the first day. On our short list was the Acropolis and Parthenon, Acropolis museum, Temple of Hephaestus, and the Ancient Agora. Continue reading “Off To Istanbul”

Island Living (for a day)

Day 3: Heading to Hydra

Setting off after breakfast we headed to the train to take us to the ferry terminal where we would embark on a shortish high speed catamaran trip to the island of Hydra. My mother’s friend (whose house we’d be staying in) would not be there, but we were instructed to meet someone outside of the bank, and she would give us a key and show us where to go. There are no cars on Hydra (well there’s the fire truck and one or two others, but no personal cars), so donkeys are the normal mode of transporting goods around the island. We only had a short walk, and virtually no baggage (so no donkey), and we made our way through the narrow cobblestone streets. The house was tucked behind a door which lead to a small patio. The entire house was rustic but elegant and beautiful. We stayed in a room underground, which stayed nice and cool compared to the weather outside. After dropping off our things we decided to grab a bite to eat and then walk along one of the paths. Continue reading “Island Living (for a day)”
