Waking up early we packed a few last minute things before heading out to wait for our car to the airport and the beginning of our Asian adventure. Departing for Logan at 6:45am meant dealing with the morning rush-hour traffic, but it was still light and we made good time. Check-in at the airport was a breeze, and we quickly made our way thorough security and on to the food court for breakfast. After our food, we hopped to the Admirals Club to relax in style while waiting for our flight. The Boston Admirals Club isn’t much to write home about (so I won’t), but has some comfy chairs and is quieter than the rest of the terminal. A Day In Jakarta

AA domestic first class hard product has gotten pretty good (especially compared to the legacy US first class. I mean come on, no power outlets at all?), but the soft is still lacking a little (mostly in the food), so I was still hoping to make the upgrade list. Before checking in for my flight I took a glance at the upgrade list and found it was 12-15 people long… Not a good sign. However, apparently this status thing is paying off since I jumped to first, and was able to clear along with two other people.

It was lunch time on the east coast when I arrived in Chicago, so I immediately headed for a torta from Tortas Frontera (one of Rick Bayless’ joints), and was not disappointed (though I never have been with any of the food I’ve had from there).

787 Dreamliner – Welcome Aboard!

So I’m somewhat of an airplane geek (though K will probably disagree with the “somewhat” part), and this post will be detailing my first trip on a 787. I’ve been a fan of Boeing’s 787 “Dreamliner” for a while, and have been waiting for an opportunity to take a flight on one. This post may wander a bit, given that I’m pretty excited to take this flight, so I apologize for my ramblings in advance.

Japan Airlines has been flying a 787 into Boston from Tokyo for over two years, but I was unable to take one when flying back from Japan in 2012. I hoped that I would catch one on my next trip to Tokyo, since I’ve been wanting to go back from the second I took off from Narita to go home. However, my work travels are taking me to Singapore, and the best routing includes not just one, but two(!) trips on the 787!
